The Mascarene Islands combines Mauritius,
Rodrigues Reunion and a number of small islets together in the Tropic of Capricorn.
Each island has its own unique attraction. Nature lovers will
be drawn to the beauty of the Mauritian beaches, the coral
reefs of Reunion and volcanic landscape of Reunion.
Mauritius is found 800km east

its nearest neighbour Reunion. The vegetation of the islands
was a vast forest habitat and known to be originally quite
diverse ranging from the coastal wetland and swamps forest
and palm savanna to montane forest.
The flora is diverse and
contains many unique species.
Most of the flora has affinities with Africa and Madagascar
with particular interest in high
diversity of spices, succulents and palm species as the Latania lontaroides (red latan), Latania
lodigesiil (blue latan), Hyphorbe
lagenicaulis
(bottle palm) that exist and are still propagated.
