Propagation
of commercial vanilla is done from healthy and vigourous
stem cuttings and may be cut from any part of the vine.
Cutting 90 - 100cms in length are preferable. Two to three
leaves are removed from the base which is inserted into
the grown horizontally and all the rest of the vine should
be tied to the support till the aerial roots are strong
enough to grasp the trellis. Cuttings can be transported
and stored up to two weeks.
The best natural trellis is
Jatrophas curcas and Gliricidia sepium. (refer to section
"Support")
